I've been reading this forum for a while now. I've searched the archives. I thought that the Thermionic series was designed for tube equipement but I've read that some folks think the Theater series is better. Is there an easy to understand answer to this? I built my Foreplay and my Paramours but I really don't understand the theory behind the circuits.

I know Wayne will have a good answer for you but I can say that I recently finished the Thermionic 3pi and use it with a SE 300B amp. Wow -- I've had some nice speakers in my system, but these blow all others away. The 300B's have no problem at all with them, bass is full, detailed and powerful, highs are clear but not silibant, imaging is very tight.
I think the technical answer to your question is that one speaker, or series of speakers may make a better match due to the impedance rise at resonance. SE amps without feedback have a harder time with this than, say a low impedance solid state amp with lots of reserve power. As to which makes the best match, Wayne's the expert there.

Both would be great with your amp, both are very "tube friendly." The Theater Series four π is better sounding with its back to the wall and the Thermionic four π is better used out in the open.

I couldn't tell you which speaker was better, but I can say that I absolutely love my Theater 4s with my Paramours. They make an excellent match. Garland and Till E are using this combo as well.

I think I'll go with the Thermionic 4's.

-Just wanted to point out that the reason I went with the Theater 4's was the size of the cabinets: The Thermionic 4's are even larger than the Theater 4's, which, in my small home, are "suitably" large.

I may have to rethink my choice. The dimensions are listed as 42x30x20 and 36x24x18. I'm guessing the first number is height. Is the second one depth or width?

I'll have to consult my wife. She usually says "Do whatever you want with the stereo" but 42x30x20 may be pushing it.

Ask her which one she likes better. This 7 Pi (it would be so nice), or only the 4. ;-)

If the answer is only the 4 remember to reward her anyways.
