Okay, I'm still waiting on my Peavey CH-s to come in, but I'm going to the hardware store today for cap screws. How many mounting holes are there on the front of the CH-3s? I can only buy the right size locally in packages of 2 screws each, so I may as well get the right amount. Thanks.

Kevin

Six mounting screws. I would advice you get ones with large heads on them, the CH-3's use slots (not holes) and the slots are quite wide.

1/4" 20 cap screws. I would guess the heads should be about 3/8". Do you think that's big enough?

Two problems:
1) The 1/4 20 are too thick to go thru the slots w/o forcing them, and the heads are small(see #2)
2) #10-32 are the right size bolts but the heads so small they go
right thru the soft material of the horn when you tighten them down.

We need to find #10-32 with the oversize pan head JBL uses. Even black washers are unsightly.

I've never actually seen.... [message #35281 is a reply to message #35279] Fri, 01 March 2002 14:53 Go to previous messageGo to next message

one of these horns .....but couldn't you use a counter sink bit and enlarge the slots till a countersunk screw or machine screw would fit?

I looked around a bit at MacMaster-Carr and didn't really find the right bolt but it might be in their printed catalogue. I'm also going to post and poke around at Madisound. What's a "button head" screw? and where do you get them?
I'm looking for what I know as a "washer head" screw; an oversize pan-head used to attach drawer fronts to drawer boxes.

Hi,
The Parts Express catalog has a good selection of mounting hardware.
Take care,
Steve

I like these for a finished look for when you can have a counter bore for the regular cap screw to nest inside. The head on these is a little larger than a cap screw. The key is hex key is also smaller so you can not apply as much torque, and over tighten.
This would have a nice large head like the Pan Heads you like. It just uses a allen key.
