I just ordered all the finalized parts for PE for the crossovers, but I have a worry.

I need 42.5 uf caps on the woofer zobel network. But the 40 uf caps at PE (the daytons) are $10 dollars each, so instead I ordered four 8.2 uf caps and four 33 uf non-polar electrolytes. I'll wire them in parallel to get the proper value (within tolerances).

Anyway, I'm worried that this lower power cap (the electro) I'm gonna have to replace at a later date. It's only 100 volts.

Is it going to hold up long-term?

Thanks dude.

For C5, 100v should be enough, as long as it's non-polarized. If not, replace it with a pair of 20uF polypropylene caps. They're not too expensive and won't get leaky over time as electrolytics do.

Thanks Wayne.

It was just a bit of a cost-cutting measurement... The total cost of crossovers on these speakers using the mills resistors is roughly $550 american, plus shipping, plus the rediculous duty charges I usually get slapped with (up to and including 50%) along with the poor exchange rate. I'm simply tapped out of money for these speakers, so finishing the second pair may not happen until the summer.

Thanks for the advice. I'll bite the bullet and go with the poly caps.

$295 with shipping, mills and all. PE had everything in stock, so now I'm waiting with the enclosures 90% done, and no H-290/PSD2002's/xover parts on hand. I went with all Dayton caps vs. Solen, only saved $20 or so there, but I've used the dayton's before and like them. Xovers will be piece built, when you do the LF and HF that way, there are a few more $ saved, and the LF coil is 14 ga. air core, HF is 18 ga. No zobel considered at present, the 2035's have a very flat z, jbl claimed maybe still resistive at 1 kHz...Le is only 0.25 mH. Sam

Well, the thing is I'm building two pairs, not just one... Otherwise my crossover is very similar to yours (I imagine) other then I'm still using the zobel.

I'll have to find a good combination to get the value. I'll try out some different patterns and see what can get closest to 42.5uF (the actual needed value) while reducing cost.

Wow, two pairs, no wonder so much $$, I was starting to think customs duties must be really high. Good luck, Sam

It is. I've paid up to 50% duty before.

I will probably get whacked for these xover parts, too. That's just the price PE charges me, I'll surely get a larger bill when they get to my door.

Never heard of them.

I purchased my compression drivers and woofers from a local dealer through Mcbride. They don't sell decent crossover parts though :/

Where's this parts connection at?
