Hi Wayne!
I've tried your new compensation network in my 4Pi Pro. This made them sound even better(more "balanced"?). BUT, I would like to have more bass. I've tried to place the speakers in the corners. This gave me more bass, but I lost some of the other qualities I like. My room is to small for a 2242 sub, so I've thought of 3 possible solutions:

1. Build a 5 cu.ft box for my 2226.

2. Build 2 subs of ~2 cu.ft with drivers like the Peerless XLS

3. Build a single sub of ~5-6 cu.ft with a 15" driver
(haven't figured out which one yet)

Which solution do you think would be the best?

You might look at the TAD 1602. It isn't terribly expensive like their compression drivers are, and you could use them for a subwoofer.

Running PiAlign on this driver, we enter Vad=18.2, Frd=21 and Qd=5. It suggests a cabinet size of 3.66 cubic feet with a port of 3 1/2" x 6 3/16" and 4 13/16" long.

That's intriguing, but the TAD's look expensive. MSRP is $635 each, on their website. I don't know anything about them. How do they sound in comparison to JBL? Anybody carry them online that you know of?

MSRP is high, but "street cost" is more reasonable. You can get 1602's for $300 in good condition, about the same as JBL pro woofers.

Should I use the 2226's in a sealed box if I build a sub? Is two better than one?

TIA
Frode

I'd leave the four Pi design as it is, and just subwoofers. The rolloff is smooth and gradual, and blends very nicely with subs.

Is it best to use one or two subs?

TIA

The more subs the better, because it tends to smooth room modes. That's more an issue than anything else.
I like the old JBL 2235h woofers [message #33944 is a reply to message #33916] Thu, 27 September 2001 07:45 Go to previous messageGo to next message

for subs. They are discontinued but can be found used for around $125.00 - $150.00 each. For the money you'd spend on the TADs you could run 4 or more of these. They really go low. Running a couple pair will rock the whole neighborhood!
