There seems to be some good interest in a Smith Horn group build project. If you are interested, please complete the survey below to determine the level and type of "prep work" we're looking for.

Throat Size:
- 1"
- 1.5"
- 2"

Pre-fab Components:
- Vanes
- Throat Plate
- Body

Vane Pre-fab:
(What type of joinery are you looking for? A mortise joint will require an increase in the vane to account for the tenons. Dowel joints can use the same vanes as butt-joints)
- Flat butt joint
- Mortise joint

Throat Adaptor:
- Straight bore
- Circular to rectangular transition

Pre-fab Material:
- MDF
- hardwood

Please add any other questions you think I may have missed.

gar.

Here's mine:

1"

Vane
Throat Plate
Body

Mortise/ either one is fine but I like the joint integrity of the mortise and I don't see why it would be a lot more money so why not?

I would like to use one of my Altec drivers so I would assume that means rectangle to circle? If not then eithor one will do.

Hardwood; I guess plywood is out of the question then? Baltic Birch?

Looks good so far.
Thanks for doing this survey Garman.

Hey-Hey!!!,
I am not sure what you mean by 'vanes'.

anyway...

1.375 throat.
Conical section, 19" axial length
8 petals to approximate the cone, 13 mm, 11-ply birch?
35-degree included angle/flare, maybe 40

Mating to two-bolt old RCA compression driver. Throat terminated in the mounting plate, perhaps 1/4" copper? no special throat section.
cheers,
Douglas

The vanes are the petals inside the horn to create the flare.

Oh, got you...:)

Yes, 8 vanes. Probably 40-degrees included, or at least that is what my notes say. Now to get the good plywood.

The issue I have is that it requires a 22.5 degree miter. With a serious tool shortage, this isn't easy to step around. The back plate/mount is quite easy by comparison...:)
cheers,
Douglas
