I saw this at parts express:
Part Number 290-434
Sells for around $350 each. (Already has a heatsink in the front of the cone, I think).
It's an 18 incher with 97 db eff that can do 1250 watts rms.
Xmax: 9.8 mm.
Wonder what would happen with 2 of these and a suitably modified
12 pi cabinet. Should get 135 db SPL continuous you think?

That's the Eminence Kilomax, and you're right, it uses a small vented heatsink, probably why they were able to increase power handling 2x.

Wouldn't work to good, for one thing the horn cabinet would be massive, another thing it dosen't have the magnetic strength (BL) for good cone control in a long horn, the fs is to high so it would have trouble getting down to 30hz. The Qts is also a little high for horn loading, you want Qts to be like between .2-.4 preferably. It would probably be kick ass in a horn that was designed for 50hz though, but not 30. Try running some models in McBeans and see what you come up with.

Design one up you can build it in my garage but they'll be bigger than your A-7's then you can see the look on your wife's face when you bring them in through the door LOL.

HEYYY!. My new ALtec system is up in my family room, and guess what?! My wife thinks it looks cool!
I think bringing in the A-7s was great to set the expectation bar really low in terms of WAF...she loves the "only 5 cubic inch" boxes I have now.
