My friend told me it was possible to do this. I don't believe him (well, I believe it's possible, but it would take a lot of work) and was hoping that someone could prove me right! Thanks.

If I understand what you're referring to, I'd say it's quite possible to play a guitar through a basic audio amp.

Although depending on what kind of sound you're looking for, you may not be happy with the results. For example, many electric guitarists love a warm tube amp distortion that wouldn't be there with a solid state stereo amp.
