Hello, I'm trying to learn which 6.5 full range driver sounds best.
I interested in a smallish near field front ported cabinet. Any suggetions? Fostex 166 or audio nirvana? Thanks, Pete

Fostex 166 for back horns, Fostex 167 for resonant cabinets -- BR or MLTL. 168E signa has a following -- probably best in a back horn. Audio Nirvana is too new to tell, keep watching for posts. There are a lot of other full-range drivers out there, primarily Euopean, so you will just have to keep reading.

IMO-YMMV

Hi Peter,

I made a pair of corner surrounds using Fostex 167's. The boxes are about 1 cu ft. When used as mains, they don't sound 1/2 2 bad as
long as the loudness is turned on. Without it, they are a little
wimpy for the fairly big room. The ports is the back into the corners
does make a difference (more bass), so I can't say how they'd be in a
regular ported box. I also made a pair of TQWT's with Fostex 207's.
Now those thing make some real bass. Its not super clear necessarily, but there's lots of it.

I heard the Fostex Fe166 i think, in a voigt pipe at Jim Denton's house. I was very impressed with its response, esp above 100 HZ.
It seems quite flat, much more so than the FE206E. I am assuming you will use some kind of sub for this?
