I'm a beginner in a fullrange speakers.
I'm searching a TQWT project for my FE166 Fostex speakers
I have found a lot of material regarding FE127, 103, 206.....but nothing for 166.
Can you help me with any drawing?

Regards.

Stefan - Italy

You might ask this in the Brines forum too.

Terry Cain:

Ratcheer

whose most popular speak, the Abby, uses the FE166E in a TQWT.

Looking at the parameters of the FE166E, I would not have thought it applicable to this load (it looks like a backhorn driver), but he has sold these (under duress!) to no less a light in purist audio than Nelson Pass.

Evidently they work okay in this load, and I definitely think that they are the potentially best single speaker in the current Fostex line.

Get a pair (you couldn't be sorry), and experiment. You will surely get at least good sound, and as you develop, excellent.  Post back with developments, as you become a budding single-driver guru.

Don't forget to check back in with developments,

Poinz

Yea, i would have thought some series resistance would have been in order, or a tube amp with around 4-6 ohms output resistance or the new amp1 of NP.Maybe it might need the tube or current amp to give the proper response?
I have worked with both the 206e and the 166e and found the 166e to give a better mid and HF response , but the overall performance of the 206e makes it a slightly better performer.

There's an interesting Voigt Pipes project on the single driver forum that can use the FE166E. I like it because it's really simple to build and looks nice if you have a tolerance for 6' tall enclosures. I built a pair using this as the basis and documented the construction at the link below. We heard these speakers today at the Dallas Audio Club meeting and I believe all who heard them were impressed. After the meeting these speakers followed somebody to their home in Tulsa.

Hey Fred!!!---Those darn Pipes trailed me home and I made the mistake of letting them in and they some how took a liking to my DIY 3 Wpc Amp---guess I'll have to keep them now!!!! Stefan, you will not find a better return on investment/sound quality-----just use some very good quality plywood---stuff with no voids (knot holes) ----and as Fred told me, you don't need a monster amp---I have several vintage amps in the 12-25 wpc range but my home brew 3.5Wpc is the cleanest and will rock the room!----And---finally, the BASS question always comes up----You will spend a lot of time and $$$$ trying to outdo this speaker----You, sir, have been fore-warned!!! ---Jim

When you purchase fe166e drivers they come with a cabinet design .I have owned V pipes with fe166e and the nagaoka fostex back horn sounds better balanced than V pipe,I also use fe166es-r cobalt mag .And the design it comes with looks better yet .Iam build 2 pair with fe166es-r, will compare to nagaokas fe166e design. My 17 yearold just built a pair in woods class. And I have my owned pair.Sorry no pics but heres some of my older work

Yes, very interesting this TQWP.
MY QUESTION IS: WHAT ABOUT LOW FREQUENCY RESPONSE?
I build a classical TWQT project for fe166, but the mid-bass is very poor.
