value 15" driver for a two-way, horn over reflex (like a 4Pi)? Something from around 40Hz to maybe 1.2KHz?

By value I mean something along the idea of 90% of a JBL 2226 for half the money (for example)?

The Holy Grail. Let me know if you find one. Lot of people like the Selenium WPU 15.
Also consider all these drivers have their own unique sounds; so when you ask about 90% of a JBL, what you get won't sound like the JBL sound.

A 2226 on the used market would give you 100% of the performance for half the money.

What I was trying to say, by citing JBL, was presenting an example of a possible comparison-

or does everybody think the 2226 is where the bar is set?

Well; since you ask.. JBL has a house sound. They are best for certain types of music.
Other big drivers have their own sound; it's a matter of taste and there is only one way to find out; ya gotta listen to them.
Everyone has an opinion on this; thats mine.
And I am stickin' to it.
You can read about drivers all you want; but at the end of the day you still have to hear them, whenever you listen to music.

While I was being flip with my post, I was serious about the recommendation. I think used JBL drivers have the best performance and quality for the price.
