Hi,

Given that cloth surrounds are quite leaky and so allow quite a lot of rear wave to pass through, dont cloth surround drivers sound more boxy? Are there any guidelines for selecting a crossover frequency (low to mid, the drivers are used as a mid) for cloth surround drivers?

Thanks,
Goldy

Always good to absorb the back wave [message #15731 is a reply to message #15730] Mon, 03 November 2008 12:38 Go to previous message

Two suggestions:

1. Reflect the backwave with an angled reflector that points the sound down into a pit of acoustic insulation. Make it go through a bunch so the backwave is completely absorbed.

2. If this isn't possible try putting insulation strips across the inside rather than just lining the walls. The more insulation the backwave has to go through the more it will be absorbed. Spacing is important too so it is better to have two or three sheets spaced apart than one thick sheet.
