Wayne, I have been toying with the idea of building some speakers for HT. For the surrounds, BR box tuned to 80-100hz w/Alpha6 and DX25. The speakers need to fit on shelves 11.5h x 14.5d x 19w. Sub, as yet undecided, so many possibilities. I had been contemplating the Studio One Pi, which would fit, but I want to keep the tweeter above the woofer, thus the desire to try a 6" woofer. Any thoughts? Sincerely, Greg

Thanks Wayne, I figure I'll play around with PiAlign, BoxPlot, WinISD, and maybe some other programs before settling on final tuning. Since I will be using them for 5.1 HT duty I think 100-150hz should work reasonably well. Obviously the lower I can go the more seamless the transition to the sub will be. I plan on following your lead regarding the X-over, allowing the Alpha6 to roll off at around 4K. Greg

Look at some of the A/V Foxtex drivers. I've used several is a Pi sort of arrangement and have been very happy with them. Try: FE-127's, FE-167's, etc.Chris

Thanks Chris, Thankfully, I have an RPTV so shielding is not neccessary. I have several RS 40-1197/FE103's, and have been generally pleased with them in folded TQWP's. They are somewhat less satisfying in a BR, sounding a bit thin to my ear. The advantage that I see of trying a sort of .5 Pi, at least compared to what I have, is better off axis response with the DX25, slightly higher overall efficiency, and greater dynamics with the Alpha6. I just want to make sure that I am not completely off track with my thinking before I plunk down any cash. Greg

Have a look at the Eminence LA6-MB. It's kind of a of beefed-up Alpha-6 and can take you down below 100Hz on a vented box.
