Lon; Tried it but could not get past the first 45min. Am I missing something? Reminded me of that Movie where the guys are stuck in the bar after closing time and the patrons all turn into Vampires. With Steve Buscemi. Speaking of Steve I saw Coffee and Cigarrettes. Are you a Jarmusch fan by any chance? Wait till you see Roberto Benigni sitting with Steven Wright. I love that guy Roberto.

Sorry our tastes didn't mesh. 45 minutes-- well that's _half_. Maybe I just like Bruce Campbell or anyone as Elvis and Ossie Davis as JFK. It was more a One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest for me than any vamp rip-off. I liked the Egyptian hieroglyphic grafitti-- Bill Epstein would appreciate that I betcha--- it's his sort of sense of humor. Especially after those posts about Sandra Dee. After all, Bubba is bemoaning the fact that a nice young thing doesn't even care if he's in the room while she's adjusting her dress or what ever it was. Bubba says, "I might as well be a housecat." I kinda feel that way myself most days.
I cannot mount a big defense for the film. It was recommended to me by the staff at the store-- one of the "film buffs" if you know what I mean-- someone who's prob'ly seen Casablanca a bunch of times unlike me who bailed at about that same 45 minute mark.
There haven't been any at all picks to click and I remembered what you all said about "I Heart Huckabees." I will avoid that like the plague.
With my new dvd player I am catching up on commercial-free star trek episodes and old plays. The ones I picked up at the library are Jacques Brel Is Alive And Well and the "Antigone" by Jean Annouille. Also got the gy-reen show called "Basic" with Travolta and Jackson. I'm not ready for much heavy duty drama so I'll put that in first.

His stuff is real uneven and slow. Ghost Dog was his best thing easily. And casting Screamin' Jay Hawkins in Mystery Train was a real coup.
But I don't, you know, think about Jarmusch _a lot_. I consider him one of the cute or "hip" directors that the cognoscenti treat like Andy Wharhol. Wharhol of the "Art is anything you can get away with" school of creativity.

Down By Law. This is a new title for me. I've heard of Stranger Than Paradise, but never ran across it. I've seen A Night On Earth which was ballyhooed at the time, but thought it was pretty weak. How about Cassavettes? There is a documentary biography I managed to see called "I'm Almost Not Crazy".

Like my link says, it's hard to find. But there is a reference there to a new Cassavettes biography called "Cassavettes on Cassavettes" which might be of some help. Also check the torrents. There is active movement to get documentaries and other content digitally archived. It's likely only ever beern transferred to vhs and hidden in remainder shelves of vid stores and possibly library archives.
I just checked my interlibrary loan which goes through all of Wisconsin. No luck. But torrents may turn up something if a request is made. It's be an interesting hunt. A good intro site to torrents and new media is called:
