Hi all, I just bought my first tube amp, a Dared MP-7. I need speakers for a 22' x 16' room and was told to look here. I listen to everything from soft jazz to 40 piece orchestra. All suggestions welcome. TIA James

If you have two good corners, I'd suggest the Audiophile or Professional Series seven π or seven π-18. If not, one of the three π or four π speakers would be good. You might also look at the eight π or if you prefer a tower design, look at the two π tower. The one π would be good for use as surrounds or with a sub.

James,

You're in the right place. I must admit I'm not familiar with the Dared amp, but I took a look around and see it's a 6W single-ended integrated that gets good marks. If you haven't heard a tube amp before, you're in for a treat. Once you've heard one, you'll never go back (except for serious partying, perhaps).

If you search here, you'll see that there are basically two kinds of Pi users around here. Some, nothwithstanding the Pis' sensitivity, nonetheless hook them up to lots of power -- the drivers can handle it; they just keep getting louder.

Others of us use our Pis with low-power SETs. I for example have my Pi Theater 4s hooked up to a pair of 8W Welborne Laurels (sadly, discontinued). The Pis and 8 SET watts are a magnificent combination. Others, I believe, are using Bottlehead amps, and I have never heard a complaint.

I can't speak to Wayne's corner horns 'cause I have no corners.

Are you thinking of building or buying finished speakers?

The amp sounds good with Mission V61 speakers, but could definitely use more efficient ones. I planned on buying finished speakers but might do the kit route. I know a very good custom builder so they could put the cabinets together for me. Thanks, James

Could I see the Pi7 audiophile and pro speaker plans and possibly the pro Pi4? I'll write to you off forum. Thanks, James
