I watched it yet again:

The THING that is, specifically, the remake. John Carpenters Thang ya'll. I remember back in 81 or so when it was released and man did that movie skeer me. Why I thought my gal pal at the time might start sprouting king crab legs and tenticles and... But, she just assimilated my thang an we fell asleep. I like the original too. Ole Jim Arness was perfect playing a manevolent carrot. But I think the remake is better and more true to the short story. That's what John Carpenter said anyway. I've never read it. Anybody ever read "Who Goes There"?

Here's a review of the book. I thought the movie was OK, but it didn't really hold my attention. "The Thing" kind of reminded me of "The Blob" and "Aliens." For some reason, that forumula just doesn't do it for me.
