Wayne,

I would like to flare the port on my 2 Pis, perhaps with a 1/2 or 3/8 inch round over bit on the router. If it matters, I am using 3/4" stock with appropriate compensation to keep the design cabinet volume. How would I change the port length to compensate for the flare? I do not want to change the Helmolzt frequency, but I would like to reduce the noise from a sharp transition at the mouth of the port. Thanks for any help you can provide.

The Helmholtz forumula makes no provisions for flares of this sort. You may have to come at it from an empirical point of view. I would suggest that if you just radius the edge, you'll probably not alter the Helmholtz frequency very much. But you can always double-check when your done to be sure.
