Could you hear the differences of the sound when using an isolation transformer (toroidal, R or EI core transformer, for example) in your audio gear? And could you describe what the differences are?

In some cases, the reduction of hum is substantial. It really depends upon the condition, quality and configuration of the earth ground connections. An isolation transformer can break a ground loop, which in turn can result in the reduction of noise.
