I'm new here, and I have questions. Let me start by telling you where
I'm coming from. I work with low distortion pro speakers and I'm used
to loud clean sound. Magneplanars are different but sound great to me,
just small for lack of a better word. If I could get the same punch
from planars, I'd do it in an instant because they sound so real, but
like a tiny version of the original. I think that is because they just
aren't loud enough, plain and simple. Now here is my questions. What
is the most efficient planar speakers? How much power can they handle,
and what compression is there? How much output total can I get?
Rgs,
Kevin

How to put this without being blunt? It's about refinement. Pro speakers are sometimes very good, but they are still basically PA speakers for rock bands. Magneplanars are detailed and accurate, with nearly perfect imaging at least IMHO. There is no comparison, they're apples and oranges.

From what little I understand about this.... [message #24626 is a reply to message #24624] Fri, 10 September 2004 20:21 Go to previous message

you're limited by the diaphragm excursion. Consequently, higher efficiency won't answer the mail. I have seen several references to using multiple (stacked) Quad ESL-63's to overcome this inherent limitation.
