I've read several times about the Lowther's susceptibility to debris in the voice coil gap. Nobody else packs that kind of warning with their drivers (at least that I’ve ever seen). What is it that makes this a problem that seems to be uniquely associated with Lowthers?

Thanks for any info.

The ultra low clearance. But if you buy them new, Lowther america used to gaurantee them. And it;s not that common to have this problem.
No...the big problem with lowthers will eb to get a good bo for them. I would suggest go with a horn from theor web site. If you do it right.. i ma sure they will be great...since i see so few used horn lowthers on sale.

It's a combination of a very powerful magnet and that the voice coice and gap are exposed to the elements. If you look between the phase plug and the whizzer you can see the small size of the gap. Even a tiny piece of debris will get jammed causing unpleasant sounds. That said, I used a PM6A with no covers since the early nineties with no problems.
