I took measurements, drew lines, stretched strings and now have the boxes firing eggzackly 45 degrees in to the long end of the room. Very un-Epstein-like.
IN my accustomed spot welllll back from the speaks the image is nicely detached from the boxes but I am waaaay off axis. "Can't be getting the full benefit of the airier 902B's", thinks I.
So I grab a kitchen chair and place it at the top of an equiladderal triangle. Better. I'm now in Row 1 and the performers are floating just ahead and above me. Moving the chair forward and back equals changing seats in the concert hall. And I get to choose how much or how little treble energy I want.
Kitchen chair tone control. I like it.

What you are really varying here is the direct to reverberant sound energy, not the treble energy. Now, if the direct response and the revereberant response are not the same then what you perceive as the frequency response will change with this distance. However, if the speakers were constant directivity, then only the ratio would change not the tonal characteristics.
