Hi, I recently purchased a Sony PS-LX250H (it's my first turntable; it seemed like a good entry point). I was able to get a steal for it, but presumably because it's missing "the metal tray and mat" as the seller said.

Am I a total idiot? Is there any reasonable way to fix this and get the machine to be usable, or am I just SOL?

Thanks in advance.

Unless there is actual damage to the TT I see no reason why you cannot buy and replace the missing parts. Try ebay for what you need?

Yeah, I kind of tried that...there's not damage, but I don't know exactly what to search for on ebay. I don't see anything along the lines of Sony Replacement Platter or anything...any suggestions for what to search for?

Yes, look for "platter". I'd probably see if it was available as a replacement part from one of the repair shops or directly from the manufacturer. You can also buy a turntable as a parts mule if you have a hard time finding just the platter.

I'd just try and buy a non-working turntable of the same model on epay.

Buying for spare parts is so common in the auto industry, don't see why it shouldn't be here too! If the item isn't working you shouldn't have to pay anywhere near the full price for it, so this might be more than worth trying.
