Reading up on the Platine Verdier in an Old Soundpractices I see the concept of massive platters suspended by magnetic strips and employing the bearing at the point of a knife edge has caught on in the world of quality tables.

The natural regulator of acceleration is inertia, so adding mass sounds like good engineering to me! Those massive platters on Teres tables must really do the trick too.
The issue of how to design a bearing that can handle all that mass is critical. Thats why the Platine hangs the platter over opposing magnetic strips that bear the weight of the platter but allow it to rotate. Someday I would like to hear this table. There's a guy in Jersey that used to sell them but he works by appointment only. Or build one maybe.
