I am trying to put together a modern sound system and for someone like me, it is worth incorporating a digital file system into a traditional CD based music set up? Many of my CDs are worn out and scratched so I'd like to put them on something instead of rebuying them all.

As a lover of music myself, I would recommend doing that. CD to digital format isn't that hard once you get the hang of it.

Remember though, that while ripping CD's is legal, as least it still was 2 years ago, ripping DVD's of movies is not even if it is for personal use.
