How many musicians do you think there are who really get into learning about the audio aspect of making music? Do you think they just plug in and play, or do they do their homework as to what type of equipment they're using?
It really depends on the individual musician. Some are very interested in the technical aspects of audio reinforcement and recording, and others just want the end result without needing to understand.

I think that might also depend on what kind of instrument the musician plays. Of course electric guitar players notice the electronics. But those lost in the clouds cellists like my son, don't want to learn about them.
I've seen him take 15 minutes deciding on which kind of replacement string for his vioin, but when his group played an outdoor gig and he needed amplification, he just rented the first thing he saw.

I think it just depends on the musician and how they were taught. Growing up my guitar teacher actually taught about the different qualities of amplifiers, pedals, and speakers so I am probably more interested than others.
