I am so glad to see gas prices dropping for the holidays. We have cut down on the amount of traveling we do because of rising fuel costs. My mom lives in Utah and we always visit her for the holidays.

Hi, Yes lower prices are good. But with folks driving less and using more efficient cars the amount of money collected by gas taxes is dropping. In order to fix/build roads they are considering a mileage use tax. I hate to guess how they will collect it or even how they will measure it. I can just envision having to attach a device to the vehicles and have it report back to the government the miles (and whatever else they choose to spy on) and then getting something added onto the income tax bite in April. Self reporting is likely to be a disaster as well. Insurance companies will want a look at the data (some collect it now) to base your rates on it. It seems that big brother is getting more tentacles into us all the time. Confused

So how would a mileage tax help if people are driving less? Would it be exorbitantly higher than a gas tax? It seems it would almost have to be.

And that part about the Government......yes, they're trying to get more of a hold on us with more taxes and laws, but most of them don't really seem to be based in any reality that will help ANYone in the long run. The people in Government aren't too bright if you stop and think about it.

We are seeing prices under $3.00 here off and on this month. It's like a little Christmas present. As for the government and taxes, well, there's nothing good to say on that topic. So let's go back to being happy about lower gas prices. Confused
