We've been thinking about selling our house and building on some land in the next county. If we do, I'd really like to integrate a built in, multi-room sound setup. However, there are a lot of "ifs", like "if" we can sell our house, "if" we can find another plot of land we like, and "if" we can afford a new mortgage. In the end, we may have to stay right where we're at. If that's the case, is there any way to integrate a multi-room setup into our existing house?

I'm pretty sure you could, although I don't know how much it would cost. It would probably cost you less to just have a stereo in each room.
