When thinking about retirement do you think about the economy and how that can effect your savings? Some people get really technical with their finances while some people just set up one account and that's it. How do you handle it?

I have just accepted the fact that as it stands now I will never be able to retire. Paychecks barely cover the bills and that gets tighter every week so there is nothing to save for retirement or even a rainy day.
