why isnt there a horn on the 2pi? Do horns not work with a 10" driver?

The eight π loudspeaker uses a 10" midwoofer and a horn tweeter. Since the pattern of a direct radiating 10" driver remains wide up to a fairly high frequency, it is constrained by a horn in this model. That way directivity is matched.
