Wayne, They would be closer to 6AQ5/6BQ5 family of tubes. I refer to them as the skinny pentodes. The El34 is a much huskier tube family that I group with the 6L6/6550/KT family. Ron

Thanks, Ron. I've been as busy as a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest lately, so I didn't take time to check it out myself. I knew I could ask here and get some good information. I did notice Duncan's Tube Data page during a quick search of the internet. It has a datasheet for the ECL82 tube. Paul Marossy has a bias chart page online, which shows bias for a few tubes and that's helpful too. But I didn't really have time to do anything but notice they were out there. I appeciate the heads-up on the tubes. Now, back to work... Wayne

Hi Wayne, Haven't done an exhaustive search, but I don't think there are many, if any, direct replacements. There are similar types, but one parameter or another is different, such as plate dissipation of the pentode or mu of triode is different, (check pin arrangement too) etc. Since parameters are different, one would, of course, need to optimize the design for that particular section. Here are some similar ones and prices at Antique Electronics: 6BM8 $10.10 at Antique Electronics supply 6GV8 3.80 6GW8 8.60 6HF8 4.85 6JT8/6KR8 2.50 6KV8 2.00 6LQ8 3.00 Pentode section may be called Sharp Cutoff Pentode instead of Power Pentode and plate dissipations are less on some listed. Might be worth a try though. Take care. Steve

Your welcome Wayne. They are different, but with some tweeking of the existing design, one might work out ok. I would be especially careful of the plate dissapation of a couple listed, which I think were only 5 watts instead of 7 like the 6BM8. Take care. Steve
