I only have a really cheap pair of headphones that don't cancel out any noise. What I want to know what is the best brand of headphone currently on the market and what price would I be looking to pay?

Sony MDR-7506. They are closed-type dynamic over-the-ear large diaphram headphones. Chances are that whatever post 70's album you are listening to was mixed using them and they can be seen all the time on TV when you see headphones. They are a Reference Monitor, so they are not made to be Aerodyne (they favor accuracy over "pleasantness" which is better in my opinion)
They cost 100 bucks.
