I am getting ready to buy the wood for these cabinets. What type and size has seemed to work the best for everyone. Or what is a good suggestion?

You can use 18mm Baltic Birch or MDF. We use MDF on most cabinets that aren't used outdoors unless weight is a problem.

Wayne I built my rather crude initial cabinets with 5/8ths ply (16mm) - if I rebuild them as I am now keen to do should I rather use 18mm ply?

I guess the port size has to change then too - will look at plans

Thanks

Personally, I'd stick with MDF unless the cabinets were going to be moved a lot, or used outdoors or in high humidity. The biggest advantage of Baltic Birch is its durability and moisture resistance.

Thanks Wayne - I was more concerned about what thickness to go for 16mm or 18mm...?

I would use 18mm stock.
