Hi Wayne,I have large, straight 29 Hz basshorns (see link below) and currently use a pair of BMS 4592 ND drivers in Jabo KH-50 horns from 320 Hz and up (these are not displayed in the pics though). However, I am not satisfied with the BMS drivers that I find somewhat hard and sterile sounding. Therefore, I consider trying hornloaded cone mids and a tweeter above instead. This is where your midhorn(s) come in!
I would really like to get the midhorn to go down to 200 Hz, since my basshorns sounds best below 200 Hz. But since the midhorns will be positioned on top of my basshorns (app. where the wooden Bentwood midhorn are located in the picture), they will not be corner loaded as in the 7Pi application and the standard 7PI midhorn will probably not load down to 200 Hz in this position….
My question is:
Could I somehow extend or enlarge the 7Pi midhorns, so they would cover the 200-1000 Hz range when mounted on top of my bass horns? (I have also considered your 9Pi midhorns, but their 40x40 coverage may be difficult to mate with a 90x40 tweeter horn, or….). I have modelled a 90 degree conical horn in HornResp (throat=130 cm2; Mouth=3600 cm2 [35” w x 16” h]; Length=20”) – would this be a sensible approach???
I already have a pair of 10” PD.107 drivers – quite simular to the JBL 2012 -- that I would like to try.
