Re: Multisubs for pi7
I love basshorns, but they're just so big. Their size often makes it inconvenient to use hornsubs for multisubs.
The main benefit that hornsubs offer is maximum acoustic energy. But we really don't need maximum acoustic energy to make it ear-shatter...

Re: PI 2
Fore-aft driver offsets naturally shift the forward lobe centerline. But when I've measured one Pi and two Pi speakers that had drivers mounted flush and compared those with surface mounted drivers - with about 3/8" difference in the fore-aft offse...

Re: Improving acoustics in living room
The "most valuable change" is the one that provides the most benefit. That wasn't meant as an impertinent reply, but rather to highlight the fact that different environments have different problems.
The most common problems indoors are rela...

Re: Making your audio sound better
Check out the links below and then do further study by searching terms like "room modes," "multisubs" and "flanking subs." Might also study the concept of the "reverberent field" and the difference between the &qu...

Re: Amp for 4pi speakers
The flanking subs did exactly what I would have expected, which was to reduce 15dB ripple in the 100-200Hz region to 6dB ripple. That's a "textbook case" of what to expect. Flanking subs can smooth the range a little lower than 100Hz - usua...

Re: Subwoofer Setup
That's great to hear, Barry. Thanks for the feedback!
As you and I have discussed, I'm a big proponent of multisubs but I consider the flanking sub aspect to be an additional requirement. I think that distributed multisubs by themselves only solve p...

Re: LSAF 2018
My room sounded great, especially for a hotel room. To be honest, I've done this show for nearly 20 years now, so I have it down. I know exactly where to put my speakers and how to setup the equipment.
I always bring either seven π constant dire...

Re: Why is drywall bad?
That's true. Rooms with framed drywall construction are much better than rooms with brick, stucco, concrete or rock walls. The drywall panels vibrate enough that they absorb some of the bass frequencies, and so act a little bit like panel absorbers.

Re: Small-room acoustics
Actually, small rooms are harder to work with than larger rooms. The reflections and room modes are more intense in a small room. Speakers that can provide uniform directivity help reduce problems in the reverberent field, above around 200Hz, and as yo...

Re: Room acoustic problems
Small rooms have greater problems with room modes.
Search for "reverberent field" to learn more about room treatments and loudspeaker configurations that work well from 200Hz up.
