Hi Guys,
I'm planning to buy a small sound system to connect in my small room. I'm going for a stereo system since I plan on using it only for music. I listen to lots of classical, Jazz (both calssic and modern), and quite a bit of calssic rock.
My budget is quite small - around $150 for an amp and $250 for speakers. I want to know what you guys think would be the best match for my current situation.

I would sugges the cheap tripath chip amps (liek a sonic impact or Teac) and Klipsch bookshelf speakers if you are going new. If you are going used, that's another matter. Let us know.

Hi, Ilan,

The most amazing sound/$ I have heard has been from compact systems from the better Japanese manufacturers; Denon, Luxman (not, oddly enough, Nakamichi).

The integration of the response of the input components, power amp, speakers, gives a wholeness to the sound that can humble high end separates at four times the cost.

Check over on eBay for these things; I bet you can meet your budget and please your ears.

I was going to suggest a Sonic Impact amp and a pair of Axiom M3ti speakers (assuming you don't go diy on the speakers.

Hey, thanks for mentioning those Axiom speakers. I did a quick read on them, and they sound like a DArn good value for the money! Also, the 93 db eff will allow the use of the sonic impact amp!

I've looked around at some of those options and I'd love to hear some more. I want to buy everything new. I want an amp and speaker system because depending on my budget later in life, I'd like to expand and upgrage the system piece by piece (firstly by adding a sub as soon as I have the cash... which may be quite a while). I have absolute no plans of building anything myself, as I dont have enough free time. You guys have some more options for good amps?
