Illuminati (2nd Degree)

I come from newsgroups on Usenet in the old days. Sort of funny
about how I can talk about the old days of 1993 as The Dawn of Time
but that's pretty much what it was.

And from the beginning one of the worst places I know about
was wi.general... that's Wisconsin General on Usenet. It was
so bad I made a new newsgroup for up here where I live called
wi.northeastern.talk. Not as much traffic, but no a**holes either.

Welllll, there's _one_ clown that posts from Japan who is way off base and crossposts to wi.northeastern.talk for some arcane reason.

That's Usenet. I still use newsgroups but not as much as I used
to. On some of them there is real community.

I don't mind a little horseplay, it's kind of fun really. But the mean spirited stuff is just over the top. Ironically, Audio Asylum started off with a desire to minimize "flames". Look at the welcome announcement in the Bottlehead forum, from the early days at AA.

"I had participated in several other audio forums on the web in past years.
Every single forum drove me away eventually, some over a couple of years, some in 24 hours, because of a certain lack of respect shown by some of the participants and/or the moderators."

"any flames will be crushed like a ciggy butt, just like elsewhere on AA...."

LOL.

I agree, sometimes people take negative comments about a manufacture as negative comments about themselves.

Although my latest tangle on AA wasn't about this at all, it's not even worth explaining what Romy the Cat gets up to.

The worse thing is when the people who know everything take what you say out of context, or just plain misread it. Then start spouting off at the hip. It's just not worth the effort to enter the conversation some times.
Thanks Adrian

I've had some "fun" over there in the past, particularly in HEL (isn't that really how High Efficiency Loudspeakers should be acronymned?) That's pretty much why we're HERE, right?

Lessee, I was given some excellent advice/perspective at that time by Doc B (keeper of one of the most civilized places on the virtual planet!) via private email. It went something like:

Never mud wrestle with a pig. Inevitably, you'll feel disgusted and filthy, and he'll be lovin' it the whole time! You have to figure the intelligent, rational people in the crowd know who's who and what's what, and who cares what the rest think . . . . . .

The AA forum, of course, not the product category . . . . .

;-)
