Hi, I didn't see this thread until now but I have a few thoughts. The first one and possibly covered earlier is your system capable of being tweaked? Second I have discovered a device from Behringer (a 2300 I believe it is in storage at present) that uses a microphone at your listening spot and will deliver tones to the system. It has lots of presets to adjust each channel separately. You can see what the effect is as you do it and save the values internally. It will hold several sets of settings. Also several HT amplifiers can do the same thing. No need to spend $1000. With that much money you can buy something that you can keep that will do the job for you.
Good Listening
