I only bother with AM radio when I'm checking for information about the roads and travel.  I believe it's popularity has died down so much, that some car manufacturers are no longer including it as a listening option.  What can a purist do but adapt?
I can't remember the last time that I put on the radio that is in my car while I am on a trip. I listen to it occasionally because my kid wouldn't let me be when I am home and wants to get the car washed. Just like you said, a lot haa truly changed over the years.
