When I lived in Tulsa, I could easily receive stations 500 miles away at night. Oklahoma is flat and radio reception is excellent.
But now I live in Bella Vista, in the Ozarks. I literally have a transmitter in my house to broadcast material to my old tube radios, which I love. There are no AM stations in my area, and the terrain makes any DX reception impossible.
So streaming radios are a must in my area for anyone that doesn't want to setup their own little transmitter.
