I haven't, but that does sound like a good idea. Seems like I remember seeing some schematics for just such a thing. Please do report back what you find if you experiment with that.

I've only designed with traditional power transistors, for high-current outputs, high-voltage outputs or a combination of the two. Those applications are kind of simple. I drive an automobile spark plug coil with a PNP power transistor, for example. That's basically the same approach as using one for a flyback transformer.
