Most true. Very hard to translate cinema into what the minds eye does for great novels. I've only read the first one. Which was enough for me. But it's a classic.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes was approximated the most for me by Basil Rathbone. But the movies were highly adulterated. Much as I enjoyed Holmes flustering sidekick Dr. Watson in them. I remember the novels transported me out of study hall in High School to the foggy streets of London town sleuthing with the genius Holmes.
