I've never heard of Wikipedia but to be honest, I don't like the Wiki format on public internet. The idea is pretty cool but the communities I've seen using it made too many bad entries, in my opinion. It's like the HTML hyperlink model squared. Perfect for an internal document database, like might be used in a research laboratory for keeping structured notes. But it is terrible for public access, in my opinion. It's even worse than usenet groups - Everything turns to noise. And that's pretty much what you've described too, so I'd say nix it.
