Obviously, you need intelligibility. But other than that, if you're only concerned about the vocal range, you don't have to deal with issues that complicate things at low and high frequency. For example, look at the problem of room modes. Those are harder to fix than reflections in the vocal range, which are easily solved with acoustic wedges or pretty much any other absorbant material.
