I've never auditioned an electrostatic that truly reproduced a musical event. Even the big names like Quad, Martin-Logan, Sound-Lab, or King Sound just sound "dry" and lack dynamics. I like Janzen and hear good things about Sanders Sound.

Lots of box electrodynamic speakers are even worse. They sound like speakers with that "boxy" sound people are always complaining about. That said some of the best speakers I've tried are dynamic.

Linkwitz has open baffle speakers that really are nice, as do Parham's PI Speakers, i strongly urge that you take a look at unusual electrodynamic designs. The traditional box speakers have probably reached the end of their development.
