I moved this question from our small discussion about the Forewatt in the phono pre section.
Have you thought about using an LDR system like Uriah's? I know he is working on making a LDR module that will fit into a PC memory type slot, so if there are any problems with the LDR's it's just a simple matter of swapping the module. And he has digital remote and display as well.
