Keep in mind that bass frequencies are transmitted through walls and floors far more easily than midrange frequencies. Treble frequencies are attenutated almost entirely by the typical condo/apt insulated divider wall. So you'll definitely not want a subwoofer.

Also, if your room is relatively small a standmount speaker will be more than adequate. I built my son a standmount two way using the Parts Express 0.75 cu ft curved side enclosures, which works well in his condo and doesn't disturb the neighbors at moderate levels.

Another idea would be to tell each neigbor you have a stereo and ask them to let you know if it ever disturbs them. The mere fact that you took the initiative to do this will increase their tolerance for occasional loud music. But don't push it, and above all, don't ever play loud music late at night or early in the morning. I make this last suggestion as the result of having lived in the apt below a neighbor who had a cheap fart-box subwoofer turned waaaaay too loud which he liked to listen to a seven on Sunday mornings.
