You may be referring to French Polish. There's a website with thorough instructions on polishing a guitar if you Google french Polish. Guy has a Latin sounding name IIRC and uses olive oil as a lubricant. I'd find it for you but a certain virus wiped out my ability to search for anything and the registry doctor has been busy.
