I buy few new cds these days, but this one's got me excited. The Kronos Quartet is releasing a new disc, featuring Asha Bhosle, probably the most popular Indian vocalist who's ever lived. Indian vocal music is certainly an acquired taste, but Bhosle came to my attention years ago via her "Legend" collaboration with with Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000006DBM/qid=1122994377/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/102-8326899-9216167?v=glance&s=music , which remains one of my favorite Indian discs. (Bhosle is the Queen of Bollywood, and you'll see that some traditionalists fault Bhosle's classical technique; I don't care.) The new disc can be heard in its entirety by clicking the "Kronos Quartet" link at the beginning of the Boing Boing entry below. The Boing Boing entry also provides some surprising information about the lyrics to one of the songs.
