Blind and deaf people, with limited brain functions are not less human. "Allowing her to pass" is actually in her case starving to death. "Funny but you never see nurses and doctors..." - well, my wife is a doctor, and some of my friends are nurses and doctors. They gave the vow of Hipocrat, that they would protect and respect human lives from conception to natural death. Another "anecdotal evidence" you like so much... In the war, a friend of mine risked his life to help a badly wounded soldier - high caliber bullet in the abdomen, bowels in the dirt. Well, he is not a doctor, but he had one clean shirt, picked up his bowels, pushed the shirt in the hole and tighted it with his belt. And doctors operated him for quite a while several times, and it was a miracle - he stayed alive. I respect what my friend and the doctors did. And disregard people who would have done nothing ("nothing can be done, better him then me") and people who would have "shortened his misery". I said what I had and now I wash my hands.
