Just let the one π speakers rolloff naturally, and crossover to the subs around 60Hz. That makes a very seamless transition because the crossover point is so low. You can move the crossover point up some, which will reduce IMD in the Alpha 8 proportional to the amount you've moved the crossover point up. This requires an electronic crossover between mains and subs. But I'd go with the simpler solution, because IMD isn't bad as it is, and to improve it by a significant amount would require an inappropriately high crossover point.
