Balanced interconnects are much better than unbalanced, especially when long runs are required. But you can use an isolation transformer to connect a device that uses balanced connections to another that has unbalanced connections. You can also wire them together directly, but you should be careful not to introduce a ground loop. You'll know if you do, 'cause it'll hum very loudly.
